Is It Possible To Lose 50 Pounds In 3 Months? – Part 1

In this day and age of instant gratification, the thought of it taking 3 months to achieve a desired goal seems like an eternity.  However, even the seemingly long period of 3 months is not an adequate length of time in which to lose 50 pounds.  Most experts recommend weight loss at a rate of 1 to 2 pounds per week which means that it should take between 25 weeks and 1 year to safely lose 50 pounds.  Attempting to lose 50 pounds in only 3 months would mean that over 4 pounds would need to be lost each week.  This amount of weekly weight loss would be over twice the maximum recommended safe and healthy rate of weekly weight loss.  In addition it has been shown that when weight is lost too quickly it is much more difficult to keep the weight off long term.  This appears to be due to the body not having time to adjust as the weight is lost.

Even though it is not typically safe, healthy, or sustainable to attempt to lose 50 pounds in 3 months this does not mean that it cannot be done.  There are a number of fad diets, weight loss supplements, prepackaged food plans, and medically supervised weight loss programs which claim to provide the desired result of losing 50 pounds in 3 months.  It is important to determine the validity of the claims that any weight loss program makes.  Not only is it important that the claims are valid but also that they are able to be safely produced in a healthy manner which is sustainable over the long term. It might be wonderful to be able to drop 50 pounds in only 3 months, but it is imperative that your health not be at risk while doing so.  Also, remember that just because a particular diet or weight loss program worked for someone else it may not be the ideal plan for you.  It is important to consider your lifestyle, underlying health conditions, availability to exercise, as well as the weight loss plan itself.  No matter how great the potential results a weight loss plan can provide; it is important to remember that those results are directly relatable to the effort you put in and the strict conformation to the plan.  In order to get the best possible results it is important to find a plan that you will be able to stick with.
